Part of the joy of running Literary North is being able to realize many of our bookish dreams. One of these long-standing dreams was to create our own hand-made chapbooks. The Little Dipper series is the realization of that dream.

To make these books, we work with each author to edit and design a book that makes us all excited. We gleefully get our hands dirty in the Dartmouth College Book Arts Workshop, letterpress-printing the covers ourselves and then hand-stitching the books with Irish linen thread that matches the cover’s ink color. Little Dippers are for sale at live events and by contacting us via email. We also provide a free, digital download version to make the books accessible to all.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us make Little Dippers a reality, particularly Sarah Smith, Deborah Howe, and Bob Metzler of the Dartmouth College Book Arts Workshop, who are wonderfully enthusiastic and patient teachers; and to Jane Steger-Lewis, who knows how to wield InDesign and can draw a sperm whale like nobody’s business.
