Come celebrate International Compost Awareness Week (May 5 to 11) and the 200th anniversary of Walt Whitman’s birth (May 31, 1819) with a reading of Whitman's post-Civil War poem, "This Compost," a celebration of the earth's redemptive power.
After the reading, Hanover photographer Evelyn R. Swett will guide us in two response activities. You can choose to create a written response to the poem, or to create a "Compost Collage" to mark the arrival of spring, with materials that will be provided. Evelyn will have some of her Compost Composition photographs on display as well.
