MacDowell Medal Day

  • The MacDowell Colony 100 High Street Peterborough, NH, 03458 United States (map)

Join us on Sunday, August 11, 2019 to celebrate the visual artist Charles Gaines as MacDowell Chairman, Fellow, and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Michael Chabon, and presentation speaker Thelma Golden, director and chief curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem, present him with the 60th Annual Edward MacDowell Medal. Gaines, who will be on hand to accept the Medal, has been a leading figure in the conceptual art movement for more than 40 years. We hope you will be part of this very special day when art lovers from around the region and around the country converge on the lush Colony grounds to celebrate at this free public event. After the ceremony and a picnic lunch, all 32 of our studios will be open and artists-in-residence working in seven disciplines will be on hand to speak about their art.

12:15 pm: Ceremony

1:15 pm: Picnic Lunch

2-5 pm: Open Studios
