The Dartmouth College Department of English and Creative Writing welcomes Namibian Supreme Court Justice David Smuts.
Justice Smuts was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in May 2019. His book, Death, Detention and Disappearance: A lawyer's battle to hold power to account in 1980's Namibia, will be published by Tafelberg in South Africa next year.
Smuts was appointed to the High Court in 2010, and has been very active, writing a number of key opinions. He also, during apartheid, founded the Legal Assistance Centre, a non-profit legal aid center that remains one of its kind in Namibia.
This event will be held in the Sanborn Library on the Dartmouth College Campus.
