Please join MacDowell and Chairman Michael Chabon as we award the annual Edward MacDowell Medal to comic artist Art Spiegelman, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in literature in 1992, for his graphic memoir Maus. His comics are best known for their shifting graphic styles, their formal complexity, and thought-provoking content. The Medal is awarded each year to an artist who has made an outstanding contribution to the arts.
The Medal Day Ceremony will begin at 12:15 pm and will include opening remarks by Michael Chabon; a presentation by Hillary Chute, literary scholar in comics and graphic novels; and acceptance of the Medal by Art Spiegelman. A picnic lunch and open studios will follow. Guests may bring their own wine or beer.
Cost: The event is free and open to the public; special events, picnic baskets, and bus tickets are available for purchase online.
