Continuing to reread favorite authors in fresh contexts, Rebecca is reading The Abundance by Annie Dillard. These essays are still as wonderful as they ever were, and their new arrangement in this book, displayed next to each other, set the sparkling against each other, making them "seeable" in a startling and crisp way. Want to feel your heart race? Read "Total Eclipse" (originally from Teaching a Stone to Talk).
Shari is reading Durga Chew-Bose's book of essays, Too Much and Not the Mood. The opening essay wanders in all the best ways and is filled with such specific details, careful observations, memory fragments, and references to film and art. To say I loved it would be an understatement.
